The Astronomy Club at Bethlehem University hosted a special Astronomy Night in collaboration with the Latin Scouts of Beit Sahour. The event brought together students and scouts in an engaging atmosphere that blended science, fun, and community spirit.
The evening began with an engaging introductory session led by Dr. Michel Hanania, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology and Engineering, who explained the basics of astronomy and how a telescope works in a simple and accessible way.
Following this, Club member Ms. Mereal Lolas took the scouts on a virtual journey through space, highlighting the Vega star, and sharing fascinating insights about the Sun and the Moon, including their composition and significance in our solar system
The highlight of the night came during the live observation session, guided by Mr. Ahmad Atiyha, instructor at the Faculty, and Astronomy Club members, where scouts viewed the Moon in its gibbous phase, along with several bright stars that lit up the night sky over Beit Sahour.
To wrap up the evening, student Mira Muhalwas led a spirited space-themed trivia game, engaging the scout members with astronomy questions that sparked both curiosity and laughter.
This event was more than just a night of stargazing—it was a meaningful opportunity to share Bethlehem University’s commitment to science outreach, youth education, and community collaboration.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the Beit Sahour Latin Scouts, their leaders, and all the participants for their warm welcome, enthusiasm, and positive energy.
Bethlehem University looks forward to continuing such partnerships that inspire young minds and open new windows to discovery.
