AIH Leads Workshop on Assessment Methods for New Faculty

The New Faculty Orientation Program at Bethlehem University continued with another enriching session, this time focusing on assessment and rubrics. The workshop was led by Dr. Rabiha Elyan Alayasa, Faculty Specialist in Course Design and Assessment Strategies at the Academic Innovation Hub (AIH) and Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education in the Education Department.

The session offered an engaging exploration of how to integrate the three essential learning domains—cognitive, skills, and attitudes—into effective assessment strategies that truly reflect student learning.

Participants discussed the importance of aligning assessments with learning outcomes and explored the use of alternative and authentic assessment methods that move beyond traditional testing to provide a more comprehensive picture of student achievement. Through interactive activities, they also worked on developing effective rubrics that clearly define performance expectations and criteria, promoting transparency, fairness, and consistency in grading.

This session not only deepened participants’ understanding of assessment as a learning tool but also equipped them with practical strategies to enhance student engagement and success in their classrooms.
