“Love Your Palestinian Heritage” Summer Camp Wraps Up at Bethlehem University

Bethlehem University proudly concluded its annual summer camp on 11 July 2025, welcoming young participants to two enriching weeks filled with discovery, creativity, and cultural pride under the theme: “Love Your Palestinian Heritage.”

Organized by the George Nasra Center for Palestinian Heritage, Zbierski Library, the camp provided a vibrant space for children, aged 12-16, to explore their roots, celebrate tradition, and connect with the diverse dimensions of Palestinian identity. The program was designed not only to educate but also to inspire love for Palestinian culture through a balance of experiential learning and joyful creativity.

Exploring Heritage & Culture
Students had the opportunity to explore key heritage and cultural sites in Bethlehem and beyond, including:

  • Palestinian Heritage Center (hosted by Ms. Maha Saca)
  • Dar Al-Majus Community Home
  • Bethlehem Museum of Natural History
  • Dar Al-Sabbagh Diaspora Studies and Research Center
  • El Riwaya Museum – Peace Center
  • Spring Factory and Funoun Stone Carving Factory
  • Artas Convent 
  • Traditional breakfast at Afteem Restaurant

Creative Expression & Learning Activities
Students engaged in hands-on workshops and sessions in:

  • Traditional embroidery
  • Art therapy 
  • Drawing
  • Drama and theatre
  • Clay pot painting
  • A Canva design session 
  • Hakawati, documentary 
  • Film Screening
  • Games and fun

The camp concluded with a warm and joyful closing ceremony attended by students, their parents, and special guests. During the event, a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the camp’s key moments, followed by a heartfelt video showcasing memories from the two weeks. The atmosphere was enriched by soulful melodies from the Viola, masterfully played by student Afram Bahnan, and beautiful flute music by Michael Jawad touching the hearts of everyone present. 

This enriching camp was made possible by a generous donation from Ms. Maha Saca, founder of the Palestinian Heritage Center, in loving memory of her late mother Elaine Abu Rumman.
