Faculty of Nursing Integrates STEAM Approach into Pediatric Nursing Training

The Tarek Ahmad Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Bethlehem University took an inspiring step toward innovation this week by introducing the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) approach into nursing education.

Ms. Amal Abu Nijmeh Fakhoury, Coordinator of the Pediatric Nursing Course (NURS 333), collaborated with the Academic Innovation Hub, led by Co-Directors Ms. Paola Handal and Ms. Tina Hazboun, to explore how nursing students can apply STEAM methods in their work with children with disabilities at training centers.

To launch this initiative, a specialized workshop was held at the Faculty of Nursing on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, led by Dr. Rabiha Elyan, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education. The session brought together 50 students (divided into eight groups), along with their lecturers and field supervisors. For over two hours, students engaged in competitive, hands-on activities designed to demonstrate how STEAM principles can be applied in healthcare. Dr. Rabiha enriched the workshop with practical examples of STEAM applications in the health sector, sparking creativity and group discussions for future projects.

Looking ahead, Ms. Amal will be working with the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Engineering, and the Interactive Media and Communication program to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and help nursing students further develop innovative, student-driven projects.

This workshop marks an exciting milestone as Bethlehem University continues to foster innovation, creativity, and interdisciplinary learning across its academic community.
