Dr. Anas Salhab Presents Two Research Papers at the “Engineering for Palestine” Conference

Dr. Anas Salhab, Chairperson of the Department of Engineering at Bethlehem University, participated in the Engineering for Palestine Conference, hosted by the Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) in Hebron on 29-30 September 2025. The two-day conference brought together academics, researchers, and engineers from across Palestine to share innovative research and strengthen collaboration in advancing engineering education and practice.

Dr. Salhab presented two research papers during the conference:

The first paper is titled “An Efficient Post-Disaster Communication System: Performance Analysis and Optimization.” This study proposed new wireless communications techniques that can be utilized in case of disasters, either man-made or natural. Motivated by the current challenges faced in Gaza, the paper presents efficient solutions for securing communication links under extreme conditions. The proposed scenario included two new/efficient techniques, which are Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

The second research paper titled “Analytical Distributions for Functions of Independent Rician Random Variables: Application to Wireless Communications.” This paper represents a collaborative research effort between Dr. Salhab of Bethlehem University and Dr. Monjed Samuh from Palestine Polytechnic University. The paper proposes new mathematical models and statistical results for one of the most recent wireless communication techniques, which is the reconfigurable intelligent surfaces. The derived mathematical results were used then for investigating the performance of the considered wireless communication scenario.
