Practical Lecture on Spinal Injury Assessment for Occupational Therapy Students

As part of its commitment to experiential and hands-on learning, Dr. Atheer Ghatasha, Head of Rehabilitation Department at Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation, delivered a specialized practical lecture for fourth-year Occupational Therapy students enrolled in the course Occupational Therapy Skills II (OCTH 212).

The session, held under the supervision of Ms. Wisal Chamrukh from the Rehabilitation Sciences Department at the Tarek Ahmad Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Science, focused on practical training in the ASIA (American Spinal Injury Association) assessment, a globally recognized tool for evaluating and classifying spinal cord injuries

Through step-by-step demonstrations, students learned how to conduct the ASIA assessment, analyze sensory and motor functions, and accurately interpret findings according to international standards. The training aimed to strengthen students’ clinical competence and deepen their understanding of spinal injury evaluation and rehabilitation processes.

This initiative reflects the Rehabilitation Sciences Department’s mission to graduate professionals who combine knowledge, skills, and ethics, while promoting interactive and experiential learning that bridges theory and practice. Such sessions not only enhance students’ professional readiness but also prepare them to deliver high-quality, compassionate care in their future careers.
