Biology Department Chair

Meet the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Biology at Bethlehem University.  The Department was created since the establishment of the University in 1973.  The “Medical Laboratory Sciences MLSC” program was created to prepare students for a wide range of career and postgraduate possibilities.

Medical Laboratory Science is one of the most advancing fields in health sciences.  It has impacted public health policy and all its domains of risk assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prognostics.  The translational aspect of MLSC has enabled much more efficient and accurate preventive measures, diagnostic accuracy, treatment efficacy, and precision in future disease management and prediction.

There is no doubt that MLSC is one of the most crucial needs for a proper health care service. It is now implementing cutting-edge technology using molecular biology, and biotechnology as well as genetic diagnosis using DNA sequencing.

In addition, MLSC students at Bethlehem University are always encouraged to participate in faculty research. They mostly end up with publications and participation in national and international conferences.

The Department also offers a minor in Biology, which enhances the practical side of the learning process and prepares graduates for jobs in the fields of Education, Biodiversity, and Environmental Sciences.

The Department offers a graduate program, which winds up with a Master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology. Graduates from different scientific backgrounds can join the program, through which they get exposed to very up-to-date molecular techniques in biotechnology.

Moreover, the Biology department offers another major in Biodiversity and Environmental Sustainability.  The mission of this new program is to train leading biodiversity and environmental sustainability experts who can serve the growing needs of our society in this sector and help Palestine face the major environmental challenges and thus lead to sustainable human and natural communities.

The primary objective of this program is to create a new generation of intellectuals/graduates capable of discovering and providing innovative solutions to the intricate issues of the environmental crisis, biodiversity, global warming, climate change, and pollution.

Finally, the Department of Biology functions in compliance with the mission of Bethlehem University which is to provide quality education to the people of Palestine and to serve them as a center of advancement, sharing, and use of knowledge. Consequently, we individualize attention and provide research and training opportunities for undergraduate students.

I hope that the content of our website is useful to you. Please feel free to contact me at ghandal@bethlehem.edu, or any member of the department for further information about the programs.
