2023 Accomplishments

Dr. Michel Hanania, Dean of Science and Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry, had his co-authored article titled, “Comparison of Total Phenolic content, total flavonoid content, Antioxidant activity, Antimicrobial activity and content of Ephedrine and Ephedra Fragilis stems and Fruits in Palestine,” in ECB Journal, 12(12), 4109-4115, 2023. This Publication was funded by MOHE grants through Bethlehem University.


Dr. Suhail Odeh, Associate Professor in Software Engineering department, and Ms. Sherin Hazboun, an Instructor A in Software Engineering department, had their co-authored paper titled,”Al-Powered Smart Book: Enhancing Arabic Education in Palestine with Augmented Reality,” published in Ambient Intelligence-Software and Applications-14th International Symposium on Ambient Intelligence, edited by P. Dr. Osama W. Ata, Professor in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Engineering, had his new book, Research Methodology for Engineers and Architects: Practicing a Palestinian Achieved Model, published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing in the United Kingdom. Ms. Hiba Jaraiseh, an Instructor in the Chemistry Department, Ms. Sireen Radwan, a Lab Assistant in the Chemistry Department, Ms. Minerva Jaraysah, an Instructor in the Social Sciences Department, and Dr. Hanan Hazboun, Assistant Professor in the Nursing and Health Sciences Faculty, had their article titled,” Hydroquinone amount in selected skin-whitening creams, awareness and attitude among women in Palestine,” published in European Chemical Bulletin, vol.12, no.5, 2023. The journal is indexed in Scopus and enjoys a 6-H-Index. This publication was funded by a MOHE grant through Bethlehem University and can be accessed at this link.


Dr. Suhail Odeh, Associate Professor in the Software Engineering Department, presented a paper titled, “Using ANFIS to Predict the Long and Short Term Stroke Risk Based on Ultrasound Carotid Imaging and Clinical Data of Initially Asymptomatic Patients,” at the International Conference on Cyber Security and Computer Science 2023 ICONCS ’23, May 6, 2023, Karabuk University Safranbolu, Karabuk, Türkiye. Dr. Odeh’s paper has been selected for publication in the prestigious JESTECH journal by ELSEVIER. The journal is classified as SCI-Exp (Q1) status.


Fouad Moghrabi, Instructor in the Chemistry Department, had his co-authored article, Continuous Education for Pharmacists: Documenting Research Evidence, published in the Encyclopedia of Evidence in Pharmaceutical Public Health and Health Services Research in Pharmacy, edited by Z.-U.-D. Ms. Reem Zeitoun, Lecturer at Department of Chemistry, had her article titled,” Essential Oil Composition of Laurus nobilis L. from Bethlehem Area,” published in European Chemical Bulletin, vol.12, no.3, 2023. Dr. Osama W. Mr. Ahmed Atiyha, Instructor in Department of Computational Sciences and Engineering, and Mr. Nader Abu Saad, Instructor A in Software Engineering Department, presented a paper titled, “The effect of using smart learning and online teaching strategies in motivating students to study sciences at Bethlehem University,” at Inaugural Conference of the Consortium of Catholic Universities, the University of Notre Dame, Rome, Italy, 6-19, June 2022.


Dr. Hashem Shahin, Associate Professor, presented a paper titled, “Launch of the Palestinian Research Hub- Indian Research Day,” in RCS –Ramallah, Feb.26-2022.

Dr. Omar Darissa, Associate Professor in Biology Department and Director of UNESCO Biotechnology center, had his co-authored article, “Determination of the polymorphism of the booroola fecundity b, callipyge and calpastatin genes in assaf sheep breed by pcr-rflp method,” published in Agricultural Science Digest Journal, 41(1), pp. 102-107, 2021.


Dr. Michel Hanania, Dean of Science Faculty and Chairperson of Chemistry Department, had his co-authored article,” Inula viscosa (L.) Greuter, phytochemical composition, antioxidant, total phenolic content, total flavonoids content and neuroprotective effects,” published in European Journal of Integrative Medicine, 42, 2021. Dr. Mohammed Abu Ayyash, Assistnat Professor in Math Department, had his article titled, “Some Completely Semisimple HNN-extensions of Inverse semigroups”, in International Journal of Algebra and Computation, 30(2), 2020.


Mr. Nader Abu Saad, Instructor in the Department of Software Engineering, presented a paper titled, “Collection and Identification of Microservices Patterns and Antipatterns,” at the CAL 2019 “Conférence Francophone sur les Architectures Logicielles,” Hammamet, Tunisia, October 29-30, 2019. The paper is based on a collaborative research project that was carried out with a professor from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and was accepted for publication at CAL 2019.

Ms. Reem Zeitoun, Instructor in the Chemistry Department, presented a proposal titled, “Evaluation of chemical composition of the essential oil of Laurus nobilis L. leaves and fruits from different regions in Palestine,” at the Fifth Annual International Symposium on Lasallian Research at Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota, USA, in Sep 25-27, 2016.

Dr. Huwaida Rabie, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, had her co-authored article, “Combining field performance with controlled environment plant imaging to identify the genetic control of physiological traits underlying yield response to water deficit stress,” published in the Journal of Experimental Botany. 2014 Accomplishments

Mr. Nader Hazboun, Lecturer of Clinical Laboratory Sciences in the Biology Department,presented a poster on the frequency of K antigen in Bethlehem and Hebron Districts at the 8th The Palestinian Conference for Laboratory Medicine, that was held in Albireh on August 14-16, 2014.


Dr. Omar Darissa, Assistant Professor of  phyto- and mycovirology, gave a talk on the status of biotechnology in Palestine for a Swiss delegation, consisting of the presidents of several Swiss universities and Heads of several academic centers and institutions . The lecture was held at the Leaders Organization, Ramallah, 7 December, 2014.


2013 Accomplishments

Dr. Haifa Konkar, Dean of Science and Math Department Chair, has participated in the fourth Palestinian conference on modern trends in mathematics and physics that was held in AlQuds university from Aug. 11 to August 13. Her presentation focused on the reasons students avoid choosing mathematics as their major at the university level.


2024 Accomplishments

Professor Jamil Khader, Dean of Research and Professor of English, presented a paper online titled “The Incoherence of Western Philosophers and the Gaza Genocide,” at the “Zionism and Academia: Pressures, Fears, and Challenges” Conference, the 24th International Beth Al-Maqdis Academic Symposium, April 18-20, Mardin Artuklu University, Turkey.


Dr. Ibrahim Hroub, an Instructor in the Department of Arabic and Interactive Media, had his co-authored article titled,” Academic stress and cyberloafing among university students: the mediating role of fatigue and self-control,” published in Humanities and Social Communications Journal, vol. 11, 2024. Dr. Hala Nassar, Associate Professor of Education, Assistant Vice President for Teaching and Learning and the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, had her article titled, “Le theatre palestinien: Resilience et determination,” in Theatre Public, No.233, 2019, pp.52-53.


Dr. Hala Nassar, Associate Professor of Education, Assistant Vice President for Teaching and Learning and the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, was awarded the Friends of Birzeit University (FOBZU) the 2019 Fobzu Writing Residency at St Antony’s College, Oxford University. This award will  support Dr. Hala in her work on a book on Palestinian theater this summer.
