Program Overview
The health sciences are developing very rapidly with huge advances in genomics data collection and ‘big data’ analysis resources. Medical practitioners and laboratory science graduates are often overwhelmed by the challenges of advancing beyond their basic science and medical knowledge to take advantage of the new genomic and diagnostic paradigms. These developments necessitate a healthcare workforce capable of integrating innovative approaches to applying genomics knowledge in clinical practice and policy-making.
Palestine Polytechnic University and Bethlehem University have a strong history of academic collaboration. The new Joint Master’s Program in Genomics and Molecular Medicine will focus on genomics and molecular diagnostics, addressing critical gaps in specialized healthcare training in Palestine. Leveraging the strengths of both universities, the program aims to equip professionals with advanced skills to meet regional and global healthcare demands.

Graduates should be able to deal with:
- Genomics of heritable traits associated with disease susceptibility, diagnosis or prognosis.
- Genomics of non-heritable traits as in cancer genomics and epigenetics.
- Genomics of microbial infections and the microbiome.
- Molecular markers of disease and health in the body and detection technologies.
- Translational thinking that links genomic and molecular science to patient, family, and society needs.
- Grasp the molecular basis of diseases and master molecular diagnostic techniques and data interpretation.
- A deep understanding of the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomic research and its applications.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and statistical methods to analyze and interpret large-scale genomic data.
- Understanding the importance of quality control measures in molecular diagnostics and the ability to implement them.
- Ability to write clear and concise scientific reports and manuscripts. Effectively communicate complex genomic concepts to diverse
