Alice Paola Handal, M.A.

Co-Director of the Academic Innovation Hub & Instructor A

With a career in education spanning decades and continents, Paola has worked in diverse cultural and academic settings, including Palestine, the Dominican Republic, Jordan, Mexico, and Canada. Her teaching includes courses in literature, writing, communications, and the teaching of English, primarily tailored for education majors. Her passion for creative teaching methods and her commitment to fostering student engagement has positively influenced many students, especially in the English and Education departments.

Paola’s work extends beyond the classroom. At Bethlehem University, she has contributed significantly to enriching the academic and cultural experiences of both students and faculty. She founded the Creative Writing Contest, providing a platform for students to express themselves through creative writing, and she has been a driving force behind the Palestinian Festival of Literature (Palfest) on campus. Additionally, Paola founded and serves as the Co-editor of Womenity, the university’s all female magazine dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and fostering empowerment within the BU community.

Her passion for education is complemented by her dedication to community service. For many years, she has conducted teacher training in local schools, sharing her expertise with educators to improve teaching practices in the Bethlehem area. Off campus, she is an active board member of the Lions Club Bethlehem City of Peace, reflecting her deep commitment to helping the community through service initiatives.
