Faculty of Science

Meet the Dean

Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Science at Bethlehem University. The faculty was established in 1973, and currently includes five academic departments: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, and Physics.  It also hosts three major research centers: Hereditary Research Laboratory, UNESCO Biotechnology Center, and Water and Soil Environmental Research Unit.

Bethlehem University, and since its inception sought academic excellence in an attempt to cope with scientific developments worldwide.  Laboratory sessions are an essential and integral part of the students’ academic training.

In order to expedite registration for students, the Faculty of Science has designed four-year (i.e. eight semester) paradigms for both regular and Intensive English students. Each student is usually assisted by his/her advisor in terms of registration and throughout the entire academic process.

We pride ourselves by being a ‘student-centered’ university, where we strive for excellence in teaching, and our students’ success is an indicator of such an excellence. Faculty members have a strong commitment to teaching, and introduce the critical thinking approach at an early stage.  This will yield well-prepared students, ready to face the challenges of a future career in Science disciplines, and inspires them for graduate studies.

Our science students are given a taste of what research is all about by getting them involved in mini-research projects. They have to carry out a research on a certain topic and finally submit a written report to be followed by an oral presentation (i.e. seminar).  Some of these presentations were of a high quality that were subsequently presented at Conferences or submitted for publication in peer reviewed journals. A fair percentage of those graduates tend to pursue graduate studies at various universities, and have excelled thus giving Bethlehem University the reputation of its being a serious academic institution.

Frequently, we receive visiting scholars on campus. They hold frequent workshops and bring into our classrooms firsthand information of the latest advances in science, education, and technology.

I invite you to visit our website for more information on the available programs including undergraduate majors and minors, as well as our graduate program in Biotechnology and research projects.
